Run short surveys on your board and widget
Featurevote surveys ask visitors one question, a 1 to 5 rating or a poll, on your board and in your widget, with no account needed.
A survey asks your visitors one short question. It can be a rating, like how happy they are with something you shipped, or a poll, like which of two ideas to build next. People answer with one tap and no account. Each answer shows next to what that person voted for on your board.
Surveys come with the Growth, Pro and Lifetime plans. A survey you made keeps running if your plan ends.
Create a survey
Open Surveys in the sidebar and click New survey.
- Start with a template for product satisfaction, your latest release, or what to build next. You can also start with a blank question.
- Write your Question. Keep it short, up to 200 characters.
- Pick a Type:
- Rating is a 1 to 5 scale, from Not happy to Very happy.
- Poll lets people pick one of 2 to 5 options.
- Under After they answer, choose what comes next. See After they answer.
- Try the Live preview. Switch between board, widget and phone sizes, then answer and add a comment. Preview answers are never recorded.
- Click Save draft to keep working later, or Publish survey to make it live.
Save a draft
Drafts are private to your team. They do not appear on your Feedback Portal or in your widget, and visitors cannot answer them. You can save a draft before writing a question or finishing a poll's options.
Open a draft from Surveys, click Edit, and continue where you left off. Publish survey checks that the question and options are complete before making it live. Once saved, a survey's type is fixed, including while it is a draft.
A rating can be About a request (optional). That's for you: the results page shows which request it was about, but visitors don't see it. So name the thing in the question itself, like "How happy are you with the new export?"
Each poll option can Link a request (optional) on your board. On your Feedback Portal that option then links to the request, so people can read it before they choose. The link only shows while the request is public.
After they answer
- Ask for a comment shows a text box for anything else people want to say. It's on unless you turn it off.
- Ask for a review shows a button to your page on a review site, like G2, Capterra, Trustpilot or Google. Pick the site and paste the link to your page.
Everyone who answers sees the review button, whatever they answered. Review sites such as G2 and Google remove reviews collected by asking only happy customers, so it isn't limited to high ratings.
Edit a survey
Open a survey from Surveys and click Edit. You can change the question, the options, the request it's about and the After they answer settings. Changes show on your board at once.
The type can't change. For a different type, create a new survey.
Answers already in stay. A renamed option keeps its answers. Answers for an option you remove stay in the total, as Removed option.
Where visitors see it
- At the top of the Features tab on your Feedback Portal.
- In your embed, at the top of the idea box and on the board view.
People see one survey at a time. It's the newest live one they haven't answered or dismissed yet. Not now hides it in their browser.
Surveys show on a Public, Unlisted or Hidden board. On a Private board visitors can't reach your Feedback Portal, so nobody can answer. See Board settings.
Answering
A tap on a face or an option saves the answer right away. People can then add a comment under Anything to add? and click Send, or leave it there. If the survey has Ask for a review on, the review button shows next.
Anyone who can see your board can answer. Visitor email and the Patreon and Discord vote gates don't apply to surveys, since an answer doesn't rank anything.
Each visitor gets one answer per survey, counted by browser the same way a no-login vote is.
If you answer your own survey to try it, your answer shows in the results like anyone else's.
Results
Surveys lists every survey with its status and how many answers it has. Click one to see the results:
- The number of answers, and for a rating the average out of 5.
- How the answers split across the scale or the options.
- Each answer with its comment, and the person's name and email when your board knows them. Otherwise it reads Visitor.
- Voted for, the requests that person voted for on your board.
Your board knows someone's name and email when your embed identifies them, or when they gave their email on your board earlier in the same visit, for example to vote or post an idea. The email isn't verified, the same as an email vote.
Voted for finds votes from the same browser, and votes cast with the email the answer came with. Votes from another browser or device under a different email don't show there.
Close, reopen or delete
- Close survey takes it off your board and keeps the answers. Anyone answering at that moment is told it has closed.
- Reopen puts a closed survey live again.
- Delete removes the survey and all its answers. This can't be undone.
