Fill a new board with its first requests

Start a new Featurevote board with example requests from your website, the requests people already asked you for, or a list you paste or import, then send people the link.

A new board gets its first requests in four ways: from your website when you set it up, from its first visitors, in your own words or a pasted list, or imported from another tool.

From your website, at setup

A product board you set up with a website opens an example review after the board is created. Click Prepare examples to prepare up to three draft requests from your site, or continue to your board. Edit or remove the drafts, then publish the ones you want. Nothing appears on your board before you publish, and each published request is marked as an example. Setup started from Discord goes straight to connecting your server instead.

If Featurevote couldn't prepare examples from the site, the review identifies its suggestions as generic starting points. You can edit those or continue with an empty board. Leaving the website out skips the example review.

Open to its first visitor

A public board with no requests shows its visitors the post box itself, where the list will be, so the first person can start typing straight away. Its Post an idea button appears once the first request is on the board. On a board that approves posts first, the visitor is thanked while their post waits for you.

So the first thing to do with a new board is send its link. A board with no requests shows a card on the Feature Board page, titled Your board is open for its first idea, with the link, Copy link, and Share on a phone. More ways to share opens Install and share.

If visitors can't post on your board (it isn't public, or Items from visitors is off), the card asks you for the first requests instead.

In your own words

Under the link, Or write a few requests yourself opens rows to type in. A community board asks for ideas, and a shared list asks for its options.

  1. Type a few requests into the rows, one per row. The hints suggest where to look: something a customer emailed you about, a feature someone asked for on a call, what people ask for most.
  2. Already have them in a list? Paste it into a row. Each line becomes its own row, and rows copied from a spreadsheet keep their first column.
  3. Click Add another for more rows, up to fifteen at a time.
  4. Click Add requests. Empty rows are skipped.

The requests go on your board with the status Requested, each with your own vote. No emails go out, since this is you starting your own board, not people asking.

Once your board has requests, the card goes away. You can always add more with New Feature Request.

From another feedback tool

Moving a board over with its votes, statuses and tags? Click Import at the top of the page. Upload a CSV export or paste a list, tell Featurevote which column holds what, check the preview, then import. Vote totals from another tool come over as a starting count, and nobody is emailed.

A Hidden board's link carries its access key, so copy it as it is.
